The Different Types of Televisions (based on TV Technology)

Before the days of mobile devices and laptops, our entertainment needs were mostly filled by one source, the television.

In the olden days, Television has been one of the most useful medium used to communicate to the world. And right now, the television used then isn’t what people are using now.

Everything about technology is upgrading day by day and more features has been added to increase the functionality and it’s continuous . TVs are part of technological system that’s upgrading day by day.

Often, people think about updating their TV but doesn’t know the exact product to go for, may because they are not aware that TV has types or probably just don’t know the exact type to go for. We now have different types of Televisions that will definitely suit your preference.

Let’s see the types that it’s available for now.

1. Quantum Light-Emitting Diode

It’s the latest TV types that’s available out there.
Quantum Light-Emitting Diode screens is larger and can last longer. QLED TVs are more affordable.

2. Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) Display

It’s a light-emitting diode (LED). It’s made up of an organic compound that emits light in response to an electric current. This organic compound is situated between two electrodes; in which one of the electrodes is transparent. OLED have many outstanding characteristics ranging from saturation, which is very saturated, has a vivid colors, deepest black, highest contrast ratio more than QLED and
low power consumption. The only challenges about OLED is to be sustainably established different sizes. Currently, it’s only available on 55 inches. No other size aside that which turned out to be that if you’re going for OLED TV, you can’t make choices.

3.LED TVs

A LED TV is actually an LCD TV that’s backlit with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of standard cold-cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) [source: Cnet.com),

The features about LED that makes it different from over TV types is that, LEDs last longer; LEDs has more energy than their CCFL counterparts, No mercury in LEDs.

4. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

When We talk about TV types availability, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) has been the most available TV types currently. The component present in Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is called liquid crystals.

Liquid crystal (LC) is a state of matter that has properties between those of conventional liquids and those of solid crystals.(Wikipedia).

Taken is back to 10 years ago, LCDs have been used for computers, clocks, smartphones, and watches etc. screens. They are available in different sizes and they are affordable. It’s also better under brighter conditions and lghter in weight with respect to screen size.

5. Digital Light Processing (DLP)

Digital Light Processing (DLP) TVs were invented by Texas Instruments in the 1980s. DLPs are made up of optical semiconductor chip with millions of mirrors that process digital signals which made it reflecting light in different directions to create an image and made it clearly to be seen.

It’s features includes, longer lifespans, lighter weight, and 3D projection compatibility and they were immune to burn-in. The projection models available are rear-screen and front-screen and because of that, they are referred to as “projection” TVs.

6. Plasma Panels

It’s the first flat screen alternative to cathode-ray tube technology and it began in 1900s. They are made up of grids with pixels which consist of Plasma and an ionised gas that responds to electric fields. It features includes, faster frame response over cathode-ray tubes, scalability.

While, they were improving it, they found out that it was still bulky and are susceptible to “burn-in,” or image retention, over time but the newer plasma TVs with updated compact designs were still on for sale to the early 2000s. It’s no more a news that most companies stopped producing plasma TV in 2015.
